עצרת עולם התורה

במעמד הרה"ג הרב דוד לאו שליט"א, הרב הראשי לישראל ונשיא מועצת הרבנות הראשית, הוענקו עיטורי יקיר עולם התורה לרבנים דגולים, ראשי ישיבות ומפעלי תורה המצטיינים בתרומתם המיוחדת ורבת החשיבות למען לומדי התורה ומלמדיה בכל מקום שהם. העיטורים הוענקו בעצרת עולם התורה, רבת המשתתפים שהתכנסה בירושלים, בסימן שנת ה-70 למדינת ישראל ויובל שנים לאיחודה של ירושלים. בעצרת הושמעו הרצאות למדניות מאלפות על מגוון השיטות והחידושים של לימודי התורה בזמננו ועל שמירת ההלכה ברפואה המודרנית והשימוש ההלכתי בטכנולוגיות החדשות.

בסימן 70 שנה למדינת ישראל

מכובדנו

ברוכים אתם בבואכם לעצרת עולם התורה המתכנסת בעיר הקודש ירושלים – בירת מדינת ישראל בשנת ה-70 למדינת ישראל ובסימן פרשת השבוע – פרשת ואלה שמות שבה נאמר: "וְאֵלֶּה שְׁמוֹת בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל הַבָּאִים מִצְרָיְמָה... וַיְהִי כָּל נֶפֶשׁ יֹצְאֵי יֶרֶךְ יַעֲקֹב שִׁבְעִים נָפֶשׁ"

ומשבעים  נפש שירדו מארץ ישראל למצרים, זכינו בדורנו בחסדי ה' "בשוב ה' את שיבת ציון" ובמדינת ישראל שבה חיים כיום למעלה מ-6 וחצי מיליון יהודים נגיע בעז"ה ל-7! מיליון במהלך תשע"ח – שנת ה-70 למדינת ישראל.

אנו זוכים בדורנו ומתקיימים בנו דברי חז"ל:

רבי שמעון אומר, שלושה כתרים הם: אלו הן: כתר תורה וכתר כהונה וכתר מלכות וכתר שם טוב עולה על גביהן.

כתר כהונה כיצד, אפילו נותן (לו) כל כסף וזהב שבעולם, אין נותנין לו כתר כהונה, שנאמר, (במדבר כה) "וְהָיְתָה לּוֹ וּלְזַרְעוֹ אַחֲרָיו בְּרִית כְּהֻנַּת עוֹלָם".

כתר מלכות אפילו נותן כל כסף וזהב שבעולם, אין נותנין לו כתר מלכות, שנאמר, (יחזקאל לז) "וְדָוִד עַבְדִּי נָשִׂיא לָהֶם לְעוֹלָם".

אבל כתר תורה אינו כן. עמלה של תורה, כל הרוצה ליטול יבוא ויטול, שנאמר, (ישעיה נה) "הוֹי כָּל צָמֵא לְכוּ לַמַּיִם". הוי עמל בדברי תורה, ואל תתעסק בדברי בטילה. (אבות דרבי נתן פרק מ"א, א)

אני מציין זאת משום שלפי הממצאים של החוקרים והמומחים לא היו מעולם בארץ ישראל בו זמנית 7 מיליון יהודים ולא היתה מעולם כמות ואיכות כזו של לומדי תורה ומלמדיה שישנם כיום במדינת ישראל שבה קיימים כיום למעלה מעשרת אלפים בתי כנסת שבהם מתפללים בקביעות למעלה ממיליון וחצי אנשים ונשים מכל הגילאים ובכל הנוסחים.

עצרת עולם התורה

בעצרת עולם התורה אנו מבקשים להביע הערה והוקרה לאישים הדגולים שהטביעו ומטביעים את חותמם הלמדני על עולם התורה ובזכות חיבוריהם, מחקריהם ופרסומיהם גדלים והולכים בימינו דורות של לומדי התורה ומלמדיה.

ועל כן, חברנו יחדיו עם הרב אביחי קצין, העומד בראשות "ראשית – בתי מדרש קהילתיים", שהקים ומקיים את המיזם הנפלא שבת של תורה בעשרות קהילות ובתי כנסת בכל רחבי הארץ ונפעל יחדיו כדי לעודד, לפתח ולטפח את בתי המדרש התורניים בבתי הכנסת ובבתי המדרש הקהילתיים שקיימים ושיוקמו בעז"ה בעתיד.

בעצרת עולם התורה אנו מארחים את מכובדנו הרב צבי (הרשל) שכטר שליט"א – ראש ישיבת רבנו יצחק אלחנן בישיבה אוניברסיטה ניו יורק, שביקשנו מכבודו להביא לנו את הניחוח של לימוד התורה בקהילות היהודיות בתפוצות ולאחר סיום העצרת נשב יחדיו לרב-שיח בנושא: בחינה מחודשת של היחסים ההדדיים בין מדינת ישראל לבין יהודי התפוצות.

יחדיו עם עמיתיי באיחוד בתי הכנסת והקהילות בישראל ובארגון העולמי של בתי הכנסת והקהילות האורתודוקסיות, אנו מתכוונים בעז"ה לקיים בשנת תשע"ח תכניות, כנסים, אירועים ומזמים חדשים שעניינם:

אנו מתפללים ומייחלים שתתקיים בנו תפילתנו: אוֹר חָדָשׁ עַל צִיּוֹן תָּאִיר וְנִזְכֶּה כֻלָּנוּ יַחַד מְהֵרָה לְאוֹרוֹ.

Seventy years to the establishment of the State of Israel

Honored Colleagues:

Blessings upon you, as you come to participate in the World Torah Assembly, being held in Jerusalem, capitol of Israel, marking the 70^th anniversary of the state of Israel, and inspired by the portion of the week, "Shmot", wherein it states:  "And these are the names of the sons of Israel as they descended to Egypt…Jacob's progeny, in toto, numbered 70 people." From those seventy, who descended to Egypt, we have been privileged, in our generation, with help from the Almighty who: "has returned the exiles to Zion" who will number 7,000,000 people by the end of 5778, the 70^th anniversary of the birth of the State of Israel.

We are privileged in our generation, and through our presence in Israel to fulfill the words of our sages:

" Rabbi Shimon states: There are three crowns, the crown of Torah, the crown of priesthood and the crown of majesty. However, the crown of one's good name supersedes them all.

"The crown of priesthood cannot be purchased, even with all the gold in the world, as stated [Bamidbar 25]: " only he and his progeny will attain the covenant of priesthood for eternity."

" The crown of majesty cannot be purchased for all the gold in the world, as stated [Ezekial:37]:"My servant David will preside for eternity."

"The crown of Torah, however, varies from the above.  Anyone who wishes can partake as stated [Isaiah 55]: "All those who thirst may imbibe from the water source" " Immerse yourself in words of Torah and refrain from idle pursuit." [Avot D'Rabbi Natan, Chapt. 41:1]

I say this because studied results, of experts and of researchers, conclude that there is no other time in history, wherein there were 7,000,000 Jews, simultaneously, living in Israel, nor was there ever a time in history, wherein Jewish sources were studied, both in quality and in quantity, as they are today. In Israel, today, there are over 20,000 synagogues, with regular congregants, who number 1.5 million men, women and children, of all ages and of all customs.

In the World Torah Assembly, we seek to give recognition and honor to outstanding personalities that imprinted, and continue to imprint, their unique academic [learning] stamp on the Torah World.  As a result of their scholarly writings, research and publications, there are ever increasing proliferation of Torah instructors and students.

And so, we have joined forces, with Rabbi Avichai Katzin, head of "Reishit"- Community Study Halls, a program he initiated, which includes "A Torah Shabbat", featured in tens of communities and synagogues, all over Israel, with the purpose of encouraging the development of Torah Batei Midrash as part of the synagogue.

In the World Torah Assembly, we are hosting our esteemed and honored colleague, Rabbi Herschel Schachter, shlit"a, Rosh Kollel in Yeshivat Rabeinu Yitzchak Elchanan, Yeshiva University, New York, who has been asked to supply us with a taste of Torah learning, as it finds its expression in diaspora communities.  Subsequent to the Assembly, Rabbi Schachter will take part in a round table discussion, focusing on: "A new look at ongoing relations between Israel and the Diaspora."

Together with my colleagues in the Union of Communities and Synagogues in Israel, and the World Union of Orthodox Communities and Synagogues, we have the following events planned in the future:

Union of Communities and Synagogues in Israel

• Accompanying support to Gabbaim and community Synagogue leaders, who are providers of dedicated service,
• Assisting in transforming Synagogues to serve as spiritual centers, and to promote the establishment of Synagogue Batei Midrash,
• To activate community online, information and communications centers for congregants in the community,
• To unify the Synagogues and communities in Israel and to formalize their legal status vis a vis the Establishment.

World Union of Orthodox Synagogues and Communities in Israel and in the Diaspora

• To disseminate true Judaism to all Jews of Israel, wherever they may be,
• To establish a forum for dialogue amongst world orthodox leadership, and to project, to the public, a united voice,
• To establish and cultivate avenues of warm relations between Synagogues and communities in Israel and in the Diaspora,
• To represent Orthodoxy, its goals and needs in the national and governmental institutions.

We pray that our prayers will be answered: "A new illumination will shine on Zion and we will be privileged to bask in its radiance"
